NATURE FRIENDLY FARMING
We thoroughly enjoy watching nature at work on the farm, be it the changing seasons, the insects, the deer, the birds, even the weather!

We try to farm with the nature that we love in mind. Not to claim grants from the government but because we love the natural world we live in and believe as farmers it is our duty and joy to take care of it.

We do not routinely use wormers on our animals, but instead do regular testing and use natural wormers such as Ivy and Willow from around the farm whenever possible. This means we aren't poisoning the beetles, flies and other insects that feed on our livestock's poo. Therefore we're not poisoning the predators that feed on them like Swallows and Bats.

We try (weather dependent) to cut our wildflower hay meadows later in the summer to enable the seeds of the wildflowers to set and fall, but also so our bees and other insects can enjoy their bounty too. We also make sure we leave a wide field margin to leave some longer grasses for the mammals to hide and live in and provide food for all.

We have a couple of areas of wet scrub on our farm which we leave to nature, occasionally putting livestock in to encourage diversity in structure and biodiversity too. These areas are nature havens, enjoyed by the mammals, insects and birds alike.

Of course, not all nature is welcome. Rabbits munching our veg patch is soul destroying, however, protection is key. Working with nature, not destroying it - even if they do destroy the vegetables.

We are very fortunate to have a large field of Bluebells in Spring, which is a truly stunning site on our steepest field on the farm. We are also lucky to have our own little stream running through the bottom of the farm, which you will cross on stepping stones if you follow the Mariner's Way through the fields.
