OUR STORY
We are a small traditional mixed family farm tucked up on the side of Hameldown on Dartmoor. We have the hills at our back and the views before us.
For us; it is perfect.

It all began with the reading of a John Seymour book on Self Sufficiency and a growing weekly butchers bill. On a tiny piece of land we honed our skills working with pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep, veg and beekeeping and enjoyed them all. We outgrew the tiny patch and the demand for our produce outgrew it too. We now have a farm, so we can provide more top quality food for ourselves and others.

We farm with nature in mind, using no chemical inputs, wormers or antibiotics (only as a last resort for welfare purposes). Our animals are moved regularly to keep the worm count down and to rest the pastures. Allowing the soil to restore itself and to integrate all that poop, in turn capturing more carbon, feeding the microbes which feeds the grass, which grows healthier and faster, which captures more carbon and is eaten by our stock, which creates more poop back on the soil and so the cycle goes on. Improving the land and providing top quality milk and meat.

THE FARM
Higher West Coombe Farm is a small farm of 42 acres. We are nestled on the side of a huge ridge in Dartmoor's landscape. With open moorland behind us and farms below, we have stunning views to please everyone. The farm climbs from 920ft above sea level to 1150ft at the top with some incredibly steep fields keeping our legs strong and fit! But the views from the top are well worth the climb.

Higher West Coombe sits next to Lower West Coombe, between the houses runs the Two Moors Way off Hameldown. The Mariner's Way runs through the farmyard and fields, an ancient route that ran from Bideford to Dartmouth for sailors changing ships between the two ports.
